"Hyatt Towers" Approved

Today, the Austin City Council approved a project that will include two towers, each approximately 20 floors, adjacent to the Hyatt on the south shore of Town Lake. The project, to be developed by Fairfield Residential of Grand Prarie, shows how much the attitudes towards development has changed over the last few decades.
When the Hyatt was built on the shore of Town Lake very close the water line, it raised a storm of protest. It was the Hyatt that led to the current set-backs for major projects on the lake which require them to be set far away from the lakes. While these new residential projects conform to the new set-backs, they required variances for impervious cover. The City Council gave unanimous proposal to this project.
We'll add more information to the site when more is known. At this point, even the number of units has not been determined. The only thing for sure is that it will be two 200 foot towers.
